Im planning on moving to Dubai for good after i finish college here in Canada and have a few questions. Will it be easy for me to find a good paying job in engineering and also which type because i have not yet chosen what type of engineering to go into. Is Dubai like the west with its big buildings, nice places, and nice weather? Is everything there expensive. And last question is is dating aloud there or does it have to be a secret. I will be moving there alone and was wondering if you can find a girlfriend there as easily as you can in Canada. im not sure if the locals there even date secretly but im just wondering.

THANX

Getting a job in Dubai will not be easy for a recent college graduate. The majority of westerners that work in Dubai, or anywhere in the GCC for that matter, are educated and have years of experience in their field, and hence get a very good salary.

Dubai is not really like the west. Yes, it has big buildings, huge shopping malls and plazas and you can get about any food you want, but the culture is different. It's a Middle Eastern country with Middle Eastern customs. You can date, but expats have been given the boot for kissing in public, so things are not quite as open as they would be in Canada. You don't have to date in secret though.

The weather in Dubai is very hot and very humid for most of the year. It's not comparable at all to the weather in Canada.

Things in Dubai are pretty expensive in my opinion. I've lived in other GCC countries that are less expensive and currently live in the U.S. Many things in Dubai, such as food, coffee, clothes, rent, etc are more expensive in Dubai than they are where I'm at in the U.S., so that should give you some idea. There are cheaper shops here and there and you can find open markets where you can get some grocery items cheaper than at the supermarkets, but overall, it's not a cheap place to live.

You should try to go there and visit and get a feel for the place before you jump into a move. Also, if you do go and visit, it may give you a chance to network in the job market. Aside from experience and education, networking and connections really mean a lot in the GCC countries when it comes to finding a good position.

You can visit Dubai without working there, but to live there you need to already be employed (for visa reasons). So get some experience in Canada and then start applying in Dubai. Dubai is becoming like the west. There are, of course, big buildings, metro system and its fairly developed. There are tons of things to do, as you may already know. Some things are more expensive, but its not terrible. Dating is accepted, but try not to advertise it in public. Public Displays of Affection (making out etc) are not permitted. You could find a girlfriend, as there are certainly single people there. I've met many married couples who met in the UAE. So, yes, you can date just don't go crazy in public. Also, sex before marriage is illegal (although a lot of people do it). Some locals date, but its not very popular among Emiratis. The UAE is a nice place to live, however you must be employed to live there or be under someone's sponsorship (like a relative).

Dubai isn't the capital city of UAE abu dhabi is. And dubai is goign via a crippling recession at present. they're firing expats left, precise and centre - possibly no longer the finest time for youthful eco-friendly unexperienced guy to go back the following. Plus dubai isn't any massive apple - it isn't a city of desires. that's an section the position in basic words sharp not consumer-friendly nosed investors can outwit others and make money. And at the moment with the authentic property going lower than, a number of investors who idea themselves sensible have bitten dirt - and that i have little question many extra are to go back. Dubai is a gorgeous position to vacation, living the following intails a number of issues. human beings are v shallow and materialistic bcos no individual has any dedication to dubai. maximum folk look upon it as an section to make money and run again to their own international places. and at the moment of get wealthy quick in dubai are properly and over - that's why we hear of the expat exodus. Now the position you likely can make money and get a sturdy life is Saudi that's probably recession evidence. besides the undeniable fact that why ought to they provide you a job - in spite of everything you cant stay in any middle eastern united states for lengthy with out an portion of abode allow.

I feel most will feel your last point very offensive with regards to dating. Arab woman are not like western woman who date freely and move from man to man. Please bare in mind these woman are muslim and abide by Islamic law. So NO you cannot even date even if it's secretly, you can land her and your self in trouble. There are inspectors in malls, cafes, etc in normal clothes keeping a close eye on things, if anyone disputes this i will be glad to challenge them.

Most Americans and Canadians know the answers to all their questions before asking.

Things are changing in the UAE, no longer do Arabs look upon the Americans and the Canadians as the superior race, everything is moving towards emirisation and good on them.

Most of the workforce is made up of Indian and Pakistani citizens, and the good thing is most are now in positions, which would only be given to westerners such as CIO, Directors etc..

Please do not take this the wrong way, westerners have the impression they will land great jobs with high paid salaries just based on their nationality (i.e American, Canadian), that phase has now long gone.

For example, lecturers in western universities "Normal people" demand high salaries and pull the wool over others eye's giving the impression how great they are and how much value they can add to the GCC. Unfortunately the GCC has caught on and realized they are just normal people, most are now being replaced by citizens in the far east, India (very highly educated professionals), Pakistan.

Trust me i know a few western lecturers that can't tell there elbow from their backside, they talk the talk but can't walk the walk.

You need to go back to the drawing board!

Sorry if i answered your question by being very HONEST!

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
