If u wanna drive in UAE, then u need 100% concentration on the road. There are small and few roads and TOO MANY CARS! And, TOO MANY DRIVERS- WHO CANNOT DRIVE! And, most of the people are talking on the cellphone non-stop. Having their own cars- gives people a whole lot more freedom than taxis and it is also safer for women because most taxi drivers are sic!! But, yes, I don't feel comfortable driving here- not that I am not confident in my abilities but because not all drivers on the road drive safely. People who don't drive safely and endanger the lives of other innocents should be severly punished!! Only then driving will become safe here. We also need to curb the parking of cars and old damaged cars which are not in use- in residential quadrangles. This is happening around my building in Al Majaz- the residents cannot even come out of the building because so many cars are sandwiched in the sandy area outside my building just because there is no parking-meter i.e. free!! Hope the Municipality will do something and make things safe for the kids of the buildings.

every country thinks they have the worst drivers , it is really all relative. Because bad drivers don't just cause problems for their own people , they can go to other countries and spread their bad driving habits , and before you know it half the drivers in the other place are doing the same thing , because otherwise they have no chance on the road (as everyone is doing it).

Last week in the Lebanon section one asker thought they had some bad driving , but really it is everywhere you go , just more obvious practices in some countries than others.

They did a study about people who slow down to look at accidents and it turns out for every car that slows down there is a traffic back-log (jam) for 30 Kilometers .... And this is not the worst part , the roads get damaged faster . I don't know the number exactly but costs Dubai RTA like many millions PER DAY just for "maintenance" repairs of road surfaces in the city.

Driving in UAE is much safe then many countries in the world but you will find reckless drivers like the one you mentioned every where. These stuntmen can be found on many roads like 611 i witnessed 4*4 on two wheels. I have also seen motor bikers on one wheel on Shaikh Zayed Road. But the good thing is that the police has already caught them.

Hope the above link has the answer.

One person dies every eight hours as a result of road accidents, blaming the high number of fatalities on speeding. Though it is 2008 survey, nothing has changed drastically. Find below the link too.

But the mentality of the people here is if you ask why your house is not clean then the answer will be a) why are you looking my house, b) our visitors made my house dirty c) see so many people have no house at all d) why your house is dirty etc. But they never accept the real fact that we are in the wrong side and need to learn and improve.

NO!!!! it is not safe in dubai.u literary have to drive your car,the one in front, behind and both sides if u understand wat i mean.most drivers are always talking on their phone, speeding always in a hurry to go nowhere.

Watch Oprah,on her show she has started urging people to sign/take a pledge that their cars should be a no phone zone.A DRIVER WHO TALKS ON PHONE WHILE DRIVING POSES A DANGER EQUIVALENT TO A DRUNK DRIVER!!!!!

my suggestion to all who take taxis to get by,Please make sure the driver is not on phone......your life is more important than that call or text msg!!!!!
