UAE attracts people of different cultures so you will see all types and no one seems to mind the other, you are free to dress any way you like.

The UAE is a very modern country and you are allowed to dress the way you like, but you will attract less attention and be treated more respectfully if your dress or shirt is neither sleeveless, nor stretch and you don't wear shorts or mini skirts especially in rural areas, it’s a no no.

Abu Dhabi is slightly more conservative than Dubai. If you are walking aroud the malls, jeans and a t-shirt is fine. You certainly do not need to wear an abaya.
